Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD), Germany
Competencies and facilities
The institute has excellent track record in hosting foreign researchers and organising international conferences and workshops. At present there are 14 PhD students and 4 postdoctoral fellows in our institute. The university possesses the high-performance cluster. The institute has a cluster consisting of 64 Opteron – core processors with 128 GB memory. For large scale simulations, the researchers have access to the German High-Performance Clusters in Munich, Stuttgart and Jülich. The institute has been developing a Discontinuous Galerkin software framework for arbitrary numerical accuracy. This software for single phase flows will be extended to simulate multiphase flows. ESRs will benefit from the following courses provided by the institute: Advanced Fluid Dynamics, Boundary Layer Theory, Turbulent Flow, Hydrodynamic Stability, Symmetry Method in Fluid Mechanics, Multiphase Flow, Seminar Fluid Dynamics, etc.
Key person
Prof. Yongqi WANG is deputy head of the Institute of Fluid Dynamics at TUD. His research expertise is in geophysical mechanics with applications in the mechanics of granular materials, avalanching flows of snow, debris and mud, physical limnology, the foundations of continuum mechanics and thermodynamics and computational fluid dynamics. Dr. Wang has authored/co-authored 9 books and more than 60 papers in peer review journals.
